Other Cinema Digital (OCD),
a new West Coast media-arts initiative, will formally inaugurate its
alternative-cinema distribution project with a free public demo and
reception at 9pm on Wed. Oct. 15. The release celebration is being held
at the Amnesia Bar, 853 Valencia St., San Francisco.
Built on 20 years of weekly
microcinema programming experience (the Other Cinema series at the A.T.A.
Gallery in the Mission district), this artist-run enterprise plans to
release DVD features and compilations for wide-scale dissemination to
private collectors and cineastes Four of these special DVD editions
are scheduled for publication over the fourth quarter of 2003.
At the 10/15 inauguration,
choice clips from all 4 OCD editions will be projected, including excerpts
from 'Experiments in Terror', a collection of experimental horror films,
'The Subject is Sex', a playful romp through cinema's erotic underbelly,
and Bill Morrison's "Decasia", an excise re-working of deteriorating
nitrate emulsion. We will also offer excerpts from OCDÕs very first
offering, the award-winning "Spectres of the Spectrum" (SOS). Director
Craig Baldwin will be on hand to introduce his film. Mr. Baldwin will
also demonstrate the disc's 'Special Features', plus unveil several
anomalous "media-archeological artifacts" that figured prominently in
"Spectres"' concept-development phase.
The DVD demonstrations will
alternate with sonic oddities from special-guest deejays, live performances,
short tributes, and a special Gnostic Mass in which SOS lead and cultural
critic Erik Davis will invoke the spirit of Amy Hacker.

About Spectres of The
Spectrum (http://www.othercinema.com/sos.html)
SPECTRES OF THE SPECTRUM
is an energized science-fantasy allegory on autonomous resistance against
the globalization of the communications industry, and a critique of
America's military-industrial horror show. Besides a new digital soundtrack,
the DVD will include behind-the-scenes footage, a clip from the 'Science
in Action' TV Show that inspired the film, and a Director's Commentary
from Mr. Baldwin himself -- "an adrenaline-driven dervish of information,
history, and advocacy who can't help but stir things up." - Holly Willis,
'LA Weekly'.
About OCD (http://www.othercinemaDVD.com)
The Other Cinema Digital
project provides an alternative platform for the distribution of extraordinary
film works. We celebrate peculiar visions and offbeat sensibilities,
drawn from the contemporary underground as well as the archives. Be
it auteur, exploitation, or industrial, OCD delivers a decidedly different
audio-visual experience -- opening up spaces both marvelous and dangerous.
